Sachet.

I got some potpourri yesterday. I decided instead of having it sit out in a bowl getting dusty and losing its scent in two days, to do something more useful with it. So I made closet sachets! A sachet is just a small bag of fabric filled with fragrant stuff, traditionally tossed into dresser drawers or linen closets to make stuff smell good. A closet sachet is the same, but with a string attached to hang it with your clothes.

Here you can see the finished sachets with the remaining potpourri to the side and the crochet thread I used (rainbow pastel, my least favorite color). I just grabbed random largish scraps of fabric, fold them in half and sewed down two sides to make a bag, turned them inside out (with the exception of the denim one, because I wasn't paying attention), stuffed them with potpourri, then sewed the top seam with the string sewn into it. I wasn't concerned with making them look pretty. These are obviously super easy to make, and hopefully my clothes will smell like roses for a while. And as you can see I have plenty more potpourri, so I can refill them when necessary. Of course you can use other things too--dried herbs, spices, soap, or anything else that smells nice and won't rot.

  1. What on earth did you buy rainbow pastel crochet thread for? gag.

  2. I got it for tablet weaving. The selection at my local store was very small and it was the least inexpensive stuff, and I needed something to weave with until I found a better source for thread. Still, sometimes I wish I had just waited.
