Idea...

What if I took a bottle like this (with the spring latch top) and made a wool outer shell around it with naalbinding. And then felted it around the bottle. So it was a nice soft bottle cover with some insulation properties. And it would look period/fantasy too, right? (Even though I have no idea if they had anything like that.)

Think those would sell?

I can't find anything like it on Etsy. I can find drinking bottle "cozies" and covers. I can find drinking flasks made of leather and drinking flasks covered in fabric. But not really anything in the glass drinking bottle with fabric range.

Here's a similar item from Marcus. The biggest practical difference being that it looks like his can be unlaced and removed from the bottle. Probably good if people want to wash the bottle in the dishwasher.

Maybe this wasn't a great idea after all. Because if the wool gets all gross and dirty but can't be removed to be washed, that's no good at all. Sure, you could stick the whole thing in the dishwasher, but you'd probably get food embedded in the wool, and that's even worse.

So I'd have to design the wool to be removable from the bottle. Which negates either the form-fitting idea, or the continuous tube idea. If I can't come up with something satisfactory, I'll just give up on it. It was never my dream. But if I can come up with something satisfactory, do you think it would sell?

  1. I think you've hit the nail on the head when you identified the main problems. Maybe not wool? There's a threat that the wool might felt in the dishwasher, along with the concerns about the little bits of food. WHat about something like linen?
