Their smug belief that they are the most sincere and they have the best taste, and the straight expectation that everyone, naturally, agrees with them because you can't argue against the best, and it is their duty to convince anyone who doesn't believe them. I'm not like that. I know that people don't like what I like, and I don't care about convincing them, and I know it's stupid to try.
The definition of hipster is still elusive. Some people want to be hipsters and and glom onto everything they can from that culture. Others, more often it seems, view hipsters with derision, flauting them as shallow beings, whose personality stems solely from cultural affectation. I tend to be of the latter camp. I have friends who seem to qualify as hipsters, and I simply have to avoid talking with them about music and most things connected with pop culture and their form of pop culture. I also think hipsters have stupid fashion, but I don't say anything because that's rude, and fashion, like music, is a strict matter of personal taste.

706-350 BC linen strips ~4" wide, torn into strips. Some have selvedge, some have long fringe. Weave looks just like modern linen (unbleached)
Baron von Holz early 1600s wearing leather boots - leather soles ~1/2" thick
knit stockings at least knee-high, white, finely knit like modern cotton socks.
Baroness Schenck von Geier (year?) knit white stockings very finely knit. Decay before they get to knees. constructed with long heel gussets. early 1600s?
When you serve someone, they're probably grateful, and their gratitude will probably lead them to doing something for you. That could be interpreted as a selfish motive, or it could be interpreted as a kind of sharing of love and opportunity for serving and self-improvement for both of you. But the main thing to remember is this--even if they're not grateful, even if they don't do anything for you, your action has made the world, the dreary, horrid, uncaring world, a better place. And that alone should be motivation enough.
