So I went to see Unicorn City with Glenna and Raine. It's a really awesome film, though, I imagine, somewhat inaccessible to non-nerds. Which, unfortunately, is still the vast majority of society.
Then they were like, "OMG we have to larp again!" and I told them about the small experiences I've had with Amtgard. I, myself, don't really do the larping thing. Sure, I'm in SCA, but I don't walk around in an affected character, or do any fighting or anything. So I was like "Ugh acting, yeah right," and they said I should just be a character that is pretty much like myself. Raine decided that it would be awesome if I were a bar wench who hit people with a big foam frying pan. And that is a pretty awesome idea. And, hey! I could wear fantasy costumes for once!
Somehow, that evolved into the idea that I could actually be a bar wench and, at Amtgard events, sell drinks I've made. I imagine this would be much more profitable than my previous ventures in selling garb and stuff. People are a lot more willing to pay a few bucks, over and over, to get drinks and food, than to pay a lot all at once to get one item.
So if I were serious about this:
I would probably have to figure out laws about selling food. I'm sure Heidi can tell me about that. Maybe it's enough under the radar that it wouldn't matter?
I would like to get a cooler than can keep dry ice, because, seriously, it's a fantasy world, and you need smoking, bubbling drinks. Unfortunately, those are really effing expensive. I may be able to use a regular cooler and just stuff it full of more styrofoam and other insulators.
I would be making things from fruit juice, so I'd need coolers for that, and I'd have to figure out an optimal system, like making all the juices separately and mixing the drinks as they're ordered. Really simple recipes with easily-done proportions and repetitive ingredients; or syrups that I can just add water to. Then figuring out proportions for different sizes of drinks.
And I'd have to get cool jars and bottles that can be sold with the drinks.
And of course, figuring out prices.
This actually doesn't sound too complicated. Even if it involves a lot of customer service, the Amtgard people are pretty harmless, and the guys are super nice to cute, single girls, which I fortunately happen to be.
And if I want to also sell my jewelry and stuff on the side, I can call it "Trinkets and Drink-Its" LOL
Trinkets and Drink-its is a WIN.
ReplyDeleteI decided a good pub name would be "The Smoky Chalice" and "Trinkets and Drink-its" is the perfect slogan.
ReplyDeletei love trinkets and drink-its. heheh
