For the premiere of the last Harry Potter film, my sisters and I are going dressed up at the Holyhead Harpies (a Quidditch team that is all girls). I've already drafted a pattern for the robes and ordered the fabric, so now there's some dead time before I can start making the robes, and I'm thinking about the other props. Those could get expensive--more expensive than the 30 or so yards of fabric I had to buy.
So I started considering making broomsticks from all the dead branches laying around in my backyard. But more important than figuring out how to make these broomsticks, I need to figure out what to call my brand of broomsticks. In Harry Potter there's the Comet 360, Nimbus 2000, Firebolt, etc.
Here's the possible names Kristan and I have come up with:
Delta Meteor (The delta is in honor of Daedalus; I, for some reason, wanted to throw some Percy Jackson into the mix)
Edison's Epiphany
Tesla Twigs
Racing Ras
Galaxy Rider
I like Delta Meteor the most. On the broomstick it would be an actual delta, not the word. Assuming I even go so far as to paint the broom name on the brooms.
We don't all need broomsticks, just enough so that people get the point. Think they have straw-type stuff at craft stores? Other props we need: goggles, helmets, balls, bats, other protective gear. I don't know about any of these at this point. It'll probably be mix and match with whatever anyone can find or afford.
I like Galaxy Rider, it flows the best.
ReplyDeleteI like Galaxy Rider or the Delta one. When we made those brooms for EFY we used straw hula skirts cut short for the broom part. They should be coming into season soon, I will try to find one and show you what I mean. How much do we owe you for the fabric?
